Welcome!

This Women’s Legal History website (WLH website) is the location of the Indexes and Bibliographic Notes and supplementary text for “Woman Lawyer: The Trials of Clara Foltz.”

Events in connection with the book (signings, speeches, conferences) are under “Book Tour” on the status bar above. Reviews and media mentions, along with reports on past speeches and events appear under “Press.”

This WLH website is also the home of the women lawyers database. In collaboration with Professor Babcock and her students, the Robert Crown Library Staff have created this website as a resource for all who are interested in the subject of women lawyers in the United States. Our main tool is the study of individual lives and of the movements and philosophies that inspired and sustained them. Professor Mary Jane Mossman has written that this “unique” website has become “a primary source for scholars interested in the history of women in law” particularly in the United States.” California Legal History: Journal of the California Supreme Court Historical Society, Vol. 5, pp. 339-348, 2010.
